Urban screening – light projected on facades, combined with elaborate digitally generated effects – has become a new trend in artistic entertainment. The Czech capital dedicates four days in October to have buildings bathed in light and colours.
From October 17 till 20, 2013, Prague will host the first ever light festival in its history, called Prague Light Festival SIGNAL.The festival, exceptional in its broad range and diversity of light technologies, will be the first representative and compact light show in Central Europe.
The shows will bring the city’s historical buildings to life through the audio-visual installations of internationally renowned artists including the French Romain Tardy of the Antivj visual label, 1024 Architecture of France, Telenoika of Spain, Sila Sveta of Russia or the local artists The Macula who were behind the successful projection onto the Prague Astronomical Clock. These and other local artists will be revealing major trends of new technologies and lighting design in the streets of Prague featuring four video mapping projections, 18 audio-visual installations including light sculptures and other light installations, concerts and performances in the Old Town Square, the illumination of Hybernia building, Ovocný trh, Kampa, the National Theatre’s New Stage and other spots in the city. The shows will be accompanied by workshops, seminars and works showcased in galleries. Owing to the cooperation with Philips and Eltodo, the program will be enriched by unique architectural lightings on significant venues and buildings in Prague such as the Dancing House, Emmaus Monastery, famous steamship on the river Vltava and many others.
The festival, organised by Fresh Films and supported by the City of Prague and Czech Tourism, will present a large show of new technologies and will offer a great opportunity for those who wish to see The City of a Hundred Spires redrawn and magnified via multiple HD projections, surreal sound, theatrical lighting and the latest video mapping technologies, transforming the old city into an unforgettable futuristic 3D city model.
Admission to all installations is free of charge.
